Creating content for a website or social media page may be the next step in promoting your business. If your budget is tight, can you save money by skipping collaboration with content writers and asking AI for help?

AI Content Writing and Brand Voice

You can’t produce quality content without a clear and compelling brand voice. Can AI write text that speaks authentically from your brand?

That depends. You can feed a chatbot keywords which indicate the tone you want it to use, or you can let the AI analyze samples of your work and imitate them. But unless you have marketing knowledge, this may not be practical. You probably understand your brand voice intuitively, but you may find it difficult to hone in on the right keywords. And if you are new to your content journey, you may not have any samples. Plus, you have to watch out for AI’s propensity to plagiarize. If you want content that properly represents your brand, it’s best to at least consult a human.

AI Content Writing and Copyright

Do you want to ensure that your content belongs to your business only? If you’re using AI to create it, this could be a challenge. According to Built In, giving AI a prompt isn’t enough to qualify for copyright – a human has to play a significant role in the writing or editing process. Of course, this is a complicated issue. There’s no clear legal specification for the percent of the content that has to be human-generated. And there are certainly cases in which copyright isn’t important, like creating a few catchy social media captions. But if your goal is to produce long-form content like blog posts, it’s worth being careful.

AI Content Writing, SEO, and Getting Found

Strategizing to get found online is an important consideration when you’re writing content, but many professional writers don’t offer help with search engine optimization (SEO), and few give digital marketing advice. Can AI optimize content for Google or Instagram?

It’s a give and take. AI can research and analyze keywords and hashtags, and it can ensure that they’re placed optimally in your content. But leaving all of your keyword strategy to AI could hurt your SEO. You need to sift through the keywords AI gives you to find some that are popular enough to drive traffic to your site, but niche enough that your content won’t be buried in mounds of better established brands. And if you don’t manage AI’s keyword placement carefully, keywords could be stuffed into the content in a repetitive and awkward way. All in all, AI is a tool for you to work with, not a replacement for a professional.

Takeaways

AI can’t write content by itself, but it can be a useful tool for people with content writing experience. If you don’t have a solid writing background, it’s better to consult someone who does – not a chatbot. Besides, relying on AI to create can bring up ethical issues, which it’s critical to consider if you choose that route.
